The Sound of Silence
When I used to run almost every day (and yes, I admit it has been a while) I used to love the sound of my feet hitting the ground. I ran with only one earbud in because I found the sound of my own footsteps soothing. The predictability and rhythm of the sound relaxed me. Today I went hiking and I was reminded of this. I realized how when there is nothing to hear but the sound of nature and your own footsteps hitting the ground, it is good for the soul. There is a peacefulness here in Alaska that is hard to describe. People seem more patient and less rushed. The energy is different, and I truly hope that I will always remember it. My mind is quiet, and anyone that knows me knows that I am a ruminator so that is a pretty big deal.
It was cold and snowing in the mountains. The air was crisp and pure. It was magnificent!
