Goodbyes are Hard!

Made it to Alaska safe and sound. The trip was uneventful; no flight delays or lost luggage. A fellow student was at the airport to greet me and all is well. It took every bit of courage I could summon to get on the plane, but I did it.

My gosh the goodbye was hard though!!! Leaving everything you know for 7 weeks is intimadating…not knowing anyone, being unsure of where to show up Monday morning, wondering what it will be like..let me tell you, ANXIETY provoking. Leaving your partner, your home and everything that brings you comfort..rough stuff. Saying good bye to the dogs who snuggle you each and every day..heartbreaking 💔 But, guess what! We are all going to be ok.

So far, it has been pretty quiet. Unpacking, ordering groceries, getting settled in my temporary home. I did venture out to downtown. My roommate and I walked around downtown and grabbed a lovely dinner at a Mexican restaurant. We stopped in a souvenir shop and a lady explained that the Fur Rondevous starts Friday and goes for 10 days. It's followed by the Iditarod. Apparently, if a police officer asks you to show him this year's “Rondy” pin and you don't have one, the officer puts you in a jail in the bed of a truck and drives you a few blocks…my roommate said “for real?”. Rest assured, the shop owner said you can just say “no”. If you know me, then I'm sure you can imagine, the thought of that could keep me far far away!

By far the best thing has been hours of talking with my roommate (she needs a fancy code name I think). We have talked about school, family, parenting, medications, job offers. I am so grateful to know someone here and have a friend to show me the ropes.

Clinical starts tomorrow! Stay tuned to see if I actually know anything…fingers crossed!

Help me give my amazing roommate a code name in the comments section.
